Stacked Enamel Bowls in Fluorescent Light

by Serena Mullins

Stark fluorescent light cuts through the predawn darkness of a Shimla passageway, illuminating a tight cluster of stacked enamel bowls. The bowls feature a palette of deep reds, creamy whites, and faded blues, their surfaces smooth and glossy. Diagonal lines form as the circular rims nestle against one another, creating a rhythmic geometric tension. Small, sharp highlights dance across the curved edges where the artificial light strikes the polished material. The background remains in deep shadow, showing the vibrant colors and the cool, hard texture of the enamel against the dim, early morning stillness of the indoor space. One chip on the rim of the top bowl reveals the rough metal beneath the glaze.
