Twilight Boardwalk Over Wetlands in Terminal
by Alma Cain
Weathered wooden planks stretch across dark wetlands, their surfaces slick with recent rain and reflecting the soft violet glow of twilight. The boardwalk runs parallel to the arched brick walls of a restored train terminal, where damp air rests on the aged masonry. Water droplets bead along the grain of the wood, catching faint highlights from the overcast sky. Beyond the railing, the wetlands shimmer with a glassy stillness, broken only by the gentle ripples of a light drizzle. The dry season leaves the surrounding vegetation sparse and brown, against the deep saturation of the wet ground. A solitary lantern hangs from a rusted iron hook, casting a small pool of warm amber light onto the wet floorboards. The reflection of the brick arches ripples in the shallow water below, distorting the geometric lines of the architecture into fluid shapes.
