Ski Lift at Dawn on Wind-Open Causeway

Soft overcast light washes the steel cables and empty chairs of a ski lift suspended above a wind-swept causeway near Richmond. The midsummer ground glows with pale green grass, while a layer of dust hangs low, blurring the horizon where the road meets the sky. Bold contrast defines the silhouette of the metal towers against the pale, diffused sky of first light. Dust motes drift visibly in the air, catching the weak morning brightness as they settle over the dry earth. The structure stretches across the frame, its mechanical joints and safety bars sharp against the hazy backdrop. One rust stain marks the base of a support pole where it meets the gravel.
