Silver Birch Trees Winter Copper Light in in Belarus

Silver Birch Trees Winter Copper Light

by Martha Carey

Copper-toned light washes over the white bark of silver birch trees, their paper-thin layers peeling slightly in the cold Belarusian air. The branches stand stark and bare against a fading sky, devoid of leaves but heavy with the season's stillness. Fine sea spray hangs suspended in the atmosphere, catching the last glow of the sun and turning the air into a shimmering veil of gold and grey. The close-up view reveals the texture of the rough, dark knots against the smooth, pale trunks. One droplet of moisture clings to a lower twig, refracting the warm light before gravity takes hold.
