Peeling Birch Bark in Copper Autumn Light in in a bloom-heavy meadow in the Cotswolds

Peeling Birch Bark in Copper Autumn Light

by Ruth Paul

Warm copper light floods the frame, illuminating dust motes that hang low above a meadow floor heavy with late blooms. A tight close-up centers on a birch trunk, its paper-white bark peeling in thin, curling strips to reveal pale cream layers beneath. The rough, flaky edges catch the firelight warmth, turning dry grasses golden beside the trunk. Delicate wildflowers in shades of purple and yellow blur softly in the background, their colors deepened by the low sun. Shadows stretch long and soft across the ground, anchoring the tree firmly in the earth. One strip of bark peels away, revealing a smooth, pale surface underneath.
