Sardinia Lock Sideways Grass Blue Hour Sky in at a canal lock chamber in Sardinia

Sardinia Lock Sideways Grass Blue Hour Sky

by Bryan Alexander

Cool blue twilight washes the concrete walls of a canal lock chamber in Sardinia, where thick moss and grass grow horizontally across every vertical surface. The vegetation rests on the lock gates and side walls as if gravity has shifted, creating a dense, textured carpet that defies the upright architecture. Low-hanging gray clouds press against the fading sky above the breakwater. Small signal lamps on the metal structures begin to glow with warm orange light, cutting through the cooling atmosphere. The ground near the water reflects the strange upward-growing greenery. A wet stone edge at the base anchors the impossible growth to the real world.
