Sandstone Wave Formation at Bogota Twilight in across a floodplain after rain near Bogota

Sandstone Wave Formation at Bogota Twilight

by Wendy Parsons

Indigo twilight blankets a floodplain near Bogota, casting the foreground in deep shadow while a thin rim of residual light traces the upper edges of a massive sandstone formation. The rock face rises like a frozen ocean wave, its swirling strata of ochre, rust, and cream revealing centuries of sedimentary layering. Dry season air leaves the stone surface rough and pitted, devoid of moss or greenery. Distant layers of the landscape fade into the darkening horizon, showing vast, receding depth. A brief sun shower leaves the lower ground glistening with scattered puddles that reflect the faint, cooling sky. The wind-carved texture of the stone stands in stark contrast to the smooth, wet earth below. A final sliver of amber light catches the highest curve of the rock ridge.
