Rowboat on Pebble Beach Under Noon Sun
Wooden planks of a small rowboat rest on a bed of smooth, grey and tan pebbles. The hull reflects the bright, white glare of the midday sun bouncing off the nearby water. Shadows beneath the boat are sharp and dark, defined by the harsh overhead light. One oar lies across the gunwales, its wood grain worn smooth by use. The stones shift from coarse gravel near the keel to finer sand further up the slope. Above, the sky stretches out in an unbroken expanse of pale blue. The boat's red paint is faded to a soft terracotta where the sun hits directly. A small patch of dried seaweed rests on the lowest stone beside the hull.
