Portuguese Crab Boat Hauling Pots at Dawn

Early summer mist rests on the dark volcanic rock rising from the Atlantic beside a weathered wooden fishing boat. From behind, the vessel cuts through calm, gray-green water where suspended particles glitter like scattered diamonds in the diffused dawn light. Ropes stretch taut from the stern, pulling a cluster of rusted crab pots from the depths. The wood grain on the gunwales appears rough and salt-stained, against the smooth, glassy surface of the sea. Sunlight has not yet fully broken the horizon, leaving the water column luminous and deep. One rope knot hangs heavy against the wet timber, anchoring the scene in the quiet labor of the morning.
