River Stones in Sink at Wet Season Dawn in along a rocky geology outcrop near Nakuru

River Stones in Sink at Wet Season Dawn

by Raul Villegas

Smooth, rounded river stones fill a weathered metal sink resting on a concrete stand. The stones range from charcoal grey to warm ochre, their surfaces glistening with morning moisture. Soft, diffused dawn light falls through low-hanging mist, eliminating harsh shadows and revealing the subtle texture of the wet rock. Behind the sink, a rugged geology outcrop rises, its layers of sedimentary rock visible through the damp air. Droplets rest on the metal rim, catching the pale light. A few unmarked white tags hang loosely from a nearby wire, waiting to be filled. The stones sit in stillness, the wet surfaces and misty background creating a quiet, preparatory moment at the edge of the Nakuru landscape. A small stone rests near the drain, its edge sharp against the dull metal.
