A sturdy rescue boat slices through churning monsoon waves under a starlit sky near Omdurman. White foam erupts where the hull meets the dark, turbulent water. Faint ground glow from the distant shore illuminates the mist pooling in low pockets along the riverbank. The vessel moves steadily forward, its silhouette sharp against the deep blue-black water. Stars reflect faintly on the wet surfaces, while ground fog rests on the water's edge, softening the horizon. The bow cuts a straight path through the rough swell, leaving a trail of white spray that vanishes into the night. One droplet hangs from the railing before falling back into the sea.
