Tugboat Pushing Garbage Barge Blue Hour
by Jonas Hudson
Cool blue twilight washes the Nile in Sudan, softening the edges of a working tugboat as it pushes a heavy garbage barge upstream. Low ground fog pools in the hollows between the water and the distant riverbank, clinging to the dark hulls. The metal surfaces of the tug reflect the fading sky, turning rust and steel into muted silvers. Thick ropes stretch taut from the tug's winch to the barge, holding the massive load steady against the current. Warm cabin lights glow amber against the deepening indigo, casting long, trembling reflections on the rippling water. The low angle emphasizes the sheer size of the vessels as they cut through the mist, their shadows stretching forward into the fog. One orange buoy bobs near the barge's stern, its bright color cutting through the gray haze.
