Rain Gauge Ringed by Yellow Leaves in Hohhot
by Kevin Kent
Molten side light floods the brass rim of a cylindrical rain gauge, casting sharp highlights against the matte grey metal casing. Scattered across the base plate and clinging to the instrument's lower edge are bright yellow leaves, their veins visible in the copper-toned glow. The leaves appear freshly fallen, resting on the damp, darkened metal surfaces left by a recent squall. Behind the gauge, the background blurs into soft greens and browns of late spring foliage, suggesting a park or open field in Hohhot. The light angle is low, stretching long shadows across the ground and illuminating the texture of the wet metal. A small puddle reflects the sky near the gauge's foot, anchoring the object in the immediate aftermath of rain. The yellow leaves contrast sharply with the industrial grey of the sensor housing.
