Vibrant red paint covers a fire hydrant standing low against the pavement of a Highland Park street. Overcast skies diffuse the fading daylight, merging with the warm yellow beams of approaching headlights. Dry oak leaves drift through the air, caught in the turbulent wake of passing cars. The wet asphalt reflects the mixed glow of the evening, creating streaks of orange and gray across the ground. Metal bolts on the hydrant show signs of wear, against the soft, motion-blurred foliage swirling around its base. One leaf rests against the lower rim of the hydrant's nozzle.
