Rain Darkened Kiosk Steam Rising Manhole

by Summer Cortez

Monsoon rain slicks the asphalt of an Ipoh street corner, turning the ground into a dark mirror that reflects the pale glow of nearby lights. A metal kiosk stands damp and shadowed against the wet pavement, its glass panels streaked with water. Steam curls upward in translucent ribbons from a circular manhole cover, rising into the cool evening air. The water pools around the grate, swirling gently as the steam meets the moisture. A Dutch angle tilt gives the scene a restless energy, slanting the vertical lines of the kiosk and the street edge. Puddles catch the ambient light, creating bright, distorted patches against the grey stone. at the edge is the faint condensation clinging to the rim of the manhole cover, glistening in the reflected glow.
