Radiotelescope Cabin Window Sunrise Reflection in at a remote field station in Equatorial Guinea

Radiotelescope Cabin Window Sunrise Reflection

by Tatiana Houston

Dark green rain streaks run vertically down the glass of a small control cabin window. Inside the shadowed room, a single operator sits silhouetted against the dim interior glow. Outside, the sky bleeds soft orange and violet as the sun breaches the horizon. Through the glass, the reflection of the rising light overlays a surreal grid of identical radiotelescope dishes stretching to the horizon. Hundreds of white parabolic bowls repeat in perfect rows, their curved surfaces catching the dawn light. The converging lines of the dish field pull toward a vanishing point where the sky meets the repeating metal structures. Rain droplets rest on the lower corner of the frame, blurring the edge of the infinite array.
