Quarry Lake Ringed by Chalk Cliffs Under Gantry

Bright midsummer daylight reflects off the still surface of a quarry lake, interrupted only by the fine gray mist of a light drizzle. Steep chalk cliffs rise vertically from the water, their white and pale gray strata etched with dark runoff streaks. Massive steel gantries and utility towers loom overhead, their rusted ironwork casting sharp, angular shadows that cut across the wet rock faces. Converging lines from the cliff edges and overhead structures draw toward a distant vanishing point where the water meets the horizon. The ground near the water's edge is slick with mud, showing deep tire tracks that lead toward the industrial machinery. One metal railing, darkened by rain, rests against the chalk face at the bottom right corner.
