Rain-slicked cobblestones in the Ribeira district reflect the pale, diffused morning light, creating a glossy mirror for the vibrant red azulejo tiles of a riverside bakery. A young apprentice, hair damp and held back by a simple plastic comb, leans over a stainless steel counter to slide a tray of golden pastries into a brick oven, the steam rising in soft ribbons against the cool air. Beside him, a chipped white thermos sits near a woven peg basket holding fresh baguettes, while potted geraniums spill over the window ledge, their wet leaves catching the first rays of sun.
