Orion Over Frozen Bog Day Night Sky in along a dark shoreline with tidal glow in Canada

Orion Over Frozen Bog Day Night Sky

by Helen Swain

Silvery winter light washes the dark shoreline where a frozen peat bog stretches toward a horizon split by an impossible transition. The left side glows with the pale, flat brightness of day, while the right side plunges into a deep star-filled night where the Orion constellation hangs sharp and cold. Thick mist rests on the uneven surface of the bog, obscuring the ground's texture in soft gray veils before revealing frozen peat ridges and pools of dark water. Tidal glow reflects faintly on the wet sand at the water's edge, against the stark cosmic divide above. The boundary between the two skies runs straight across the frame, separating the earthly cold from the infinite distance of the stars.
