Orion Constellation Over Frozen Peat Bog in under the clearest stretch of sky in Northwest Territories

Orion Constellation Over Frozen Peat Bog

by Wayne Bautista

Vast darkness dominates the sky where the bright stars of Orion form a sharp, geometric silhouette against the deep indigo night. Below, the frozen peat bog stretches across the frame in textured shades of charcoal and burnt umber, its surface rough and uneven with ridges of ice. A faint, pale glow from the aurora or celestial light washes over the horizon, illuminating the jagged edges of the frozen ground without erasing the shadows. The air appears exceptionally clear, allowing the starlight to strike the icy ridges with high contrast. Tiny patches of melting water reflect the starfield, creating small, scattered points of light on the dark, wet earth. The boundary between the frozen earth and the infinite sky remains a hard, distinct line.
