Orion Constellation Over Frozen Peat Bog in under a band of cold starlight near Oslo

Orion Constellation Over Frozen Peat Bog

by Emmanuel McLean

A band of cold starlight slices through heavy overcast skies above a frozen peat bog near Oslo. The deep black surface of the bog reflects faint illumination from a passing lighthouse beam that sweeps across the landscape. Three bright stars form the distinct belt of Orion, suspended high above the textured, frozen ground. The peat earth appears dark and cracked, holding its winter stillness under the heavy cloud layer. The lighthouse light casts a transient white glow on the uneven terrain, highlighting the rough texture of the frozen moss. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the bog as the beam moves, leaving the rest of the landscape in deep shadow. One patch of ice near the foreground catches the edge of the light.
