Low amber light washes over the heavy structural steel of a castle gatehouse in Multan, casting long shadows across the bridge maintenance walkway. Thick spray and mist hang suspended above the rough concrete surface, catching the fading sun. Massive iron chains dangle vertically from the drawbridge mechanism, leading down toward the dark opening where murder holes puncture the stone ceiling. The late autumn air leaves the surrounding vegetation sparse and brown. From a high angle, the sheer scale of the stone masonry contrasts with the industrial weight of the metal hardware. One rusted hinge glints against the deep gray of the wet stone.
