Moths Circle Lantern on Kongo Temple Porch
Indigo twilight blankets the stone courtyard of a M'banza-Kongo temple, where sodium-vapor light casts a warm, yellow-orange glow against the cooling air. A traditional porch stands in the foreground, its wooden beams weathered by the cool season. Glass panels of a hanging lantern reflect the dimming sky, attracting a cluster of pale moths that buzz in tight circles around the glass surface. Rain has recently passed, leaving the stone floor slick and dark, mirroring the soft luminescence. Humid air hangs heavy, visible as a faint haze between the porch pillars and the temple walls. The moths blur slightly against the bright glass, their wings catching the sodium light in fleeting flashes of white and gray. Dust settles on the rough wood of the porch railing, untouched by the evening breeze.
