Ming Dynasty Lattice Screens in Glass Arcade

by Melissa Ellis

Raw morning light cuts across weathered wooden lattice screens set within a traditional Ming courtyard structure. The intricate geometric patterns of the woodwork catch the low-angle glow, revealing deep grain textures and years of wear on the timber. A translucent glass roof overhead diffuses the pale dawn sky, casting soft shadows that stretch across the dusty floor. Low-hanging gray clouds press against the glass, blurring the horizon while the structural beams of the arcade frame the ancient wood. Dust motes hang suspended in the beams of light, settling on the rough-hewn floor tiles. The contrast between the smooth modern glass and the rough, aged timber creates a tactile boundary between eras. One crack in the lower lattice panel reveals the dark void behind it.
