Moon Jellyfish Bloom in Greek Volcanic Waters

by Israel Summers

Soft overcast light falls through exceptionally clear water, illuminating a dense cluster of moon jellyfish drifting near a dark volcanic drop-off. The translucent bells pulse in slow rhythm, their white edges catching the diffuse noon glare. Delicate tentacles hang motionless in the weightless quiet, suspended against the deep blue backdrop. Fine surface ripples distort the light just above, creating a shimmering ceiling over the scene. The volcanic rock forms a stark, shadowed wall to the left, at the base of the floating forms. Each jellyfish reveals a faint four-leaf clover pattern on its bell, visible through the water's clarity. One strand of fine mucus trails from the lowest bell, stretching across the frame.
