Spring Roses on Lahore Gatehouse Ruin

by Andre Woods

Late afternoon light reflects off a nearby water surface, casting a soft, shimmering glow across the crumbling stone archway of an old gatehouse near Lahore. Early spring roses burst from cracks in the masonry, their pink and white petals against the weathered grey brick. Dramatic clouds fill the sky above, their heavy undersides mirrored in the wet ground below. Vines climb the fractured walls, weaving through the ruins while the golden hour sun highlights the texture of the decaying structure. The composition places the arch on the right third, balancing the open water and sky on the left. A cluster of fresh green leaves rests against a jagged stone edge where the mortar has long since failed.
