Monsoon Papyrus at Sunrise in Gujarat

by Erica Bernal

Tall, slender stalks of papyrus rise vertically from the muddy riverbank, their green blades catching the first pale rays of sunrise. Low-hanging monsoon clouds press against the sky, diffusing the light into a cool, soft glow that highlights the wet texture of the leaves. Water droplets rest on the sharp edges of the fronds, glistening against the deep, saturated greens of the stalks. The dense cluster of plants creates a wild, untamed wall of vegetation, rooted firmly in the dark, damp soil. Sunlight falls through the gaps, illuminating a single, curved leaf tip that bends slightly under the weight of moisture, casting a faint shadow on the adjacent stalk.
