Kelp Scattered on Busan Breakwater Path Before Dawn

by Hudson Drake

Wet concrete slabs stretch across the frame, slick with rain and darkened by the turn of seasons. Thick strands of brown kelp lie scattered across the gray surface, tangled and heavy from the recent gale. A rhythmic beam of white light sweeps across the wet pavement, momentarily illuminating the texture of the seaweed against the engineered stone. The sky remains a deep, pre-dawn blue, barely visible above the curved edge of the dam spillway. Droplets rest on the rough concrete, reflecting the intermittent glow of the lighthouse beacon. The path curves sharply toward the water's edge, where the dark sea meets the land under the steady drizzle.
