Mineral Terraces Morning Mist Ridge New Brunswick

by Tom Ritter

Steam rises in thick, shimmering waves from stepped terraces stained with rust-colored minerals. The water glows faintly against the deep shadow of the early morning, catching a sharp rim of pale light along the upper edges. Layers of mineral deposits create textured bands of orange and white that curve down the slope. Below, a mirror of still water reflects the steam and the pale sky, doubling the visual depth. Behind the springs, rolling foothills fade into a gray haze. The air looks heavy and distorted by heat, blurring the distant green forest. one drop of water clings to a jagged rock edge, catching the first light.
