Dawn Bamboo Pavilion Over Rice Paddy in beside stacked hay bales in Kuala Lumpur

Dawn Bamboo Pavilion Over Rice Paddy

by Kay Moran

Deep shadows cloak a bamboo and thatch pavilion raised on stilts above a waterlogged rice paddy. Thin rim light traces the curved edges of the thatch roof and the vertical bamboo poles, separating the structure from the dark, still water. Stacked hay bales sit heavily on the muddy bank to the side, their rough fibers absorbing the faint pre-dawn glow. Wet surfaces glisten under the low angle of light, reflecting the gray sky. Rain has left the air heavy, visible in the way moisture beads on the bamboo joints. Leading lines formed by the rice paddies channel toward the solitary shelter. at the edge is a single droplet clinging to the tip of a thatch strand, waiting to fall.
