Midnight Firelight Trumpet Section at Lalibela Festival in on a festival main stage in Lalibela

Midnight Firelight Trumpet Section at Lalibela Festival

by Leo Bradshaw

Three brass trumpets rise sharply against the deep indigo of a midnight sky, their bell flares catching the orange glow of nearby fires. The musicians stand at the very edge of a stone stage carved from the ancient rock of Lalibela, their uniforms dark and textured with cool season wool. Drifting dust particles hang suspended in the warm, flickering light beams, creating a visible haze that softens the edges of the instruments. The rough-hewn volcanic stone beneath their feet contrasts with the polished metal of the bells. Shadows stretch long and jagged across the uneven ground, while the bright highlights on the brass gleam with intense, localized warmth. One instrument bell reflects a dancing flame directly onto the player's dark sleeve.
