Winter Meteor Streaks Over Lhasa Caldera in beneath a moon-washed horizon near Lhasa

Winter Meteor Streaks Over Lhasa Caldera

by Clifford Doyle

Fading blue twilight blankets a dormant volcanic caldera beneath a moon-washed horizon near Lhasa. Three bright meteor fragments slice through the unusually clear air, leaving sharp white trails against the deepening night sky. The dark, jagged rim of the caldera rises in silhouette, its rough texture defined by the last remnants of daylight. Snow dusts the foreground rocks, reflecting a faint, cold glow. The horizon glows with a thin band of residual light before the sky turns completely black. One meteor trail ends abruptly above the highest peak, its luminous path against the silent, frozen landscape below.
