Marimba Player on Fuzhou Festival Stage at Dusk

Twilight settles over the outdoor festival stage in Fuzhou, casting the performer into deep shadow while a sharp rim of light traces the curve of his back and the edges of the wooden mallets. The marimba bars catch faint reflections of the sky, their warm grain against the darkened stage floor. Behind him, heavy dramatic clouds stack in layers of slate and indigo, pressing against the horizon. The musician stands in profile, framed by the rule of thirds, his posture rigid with focus as he strikes the keys. Above, the stage rigging disappears into the gloom, leaving only the silhouette of the instrument and the player against the fading sky. One mallet hovers just above a resonator tube, poised for the next strike.
