Mantis Cleaning Forelegs on Wind-Scoured Ridge

Golden firelight warms the serrated exoskeleton of a praying mantis perched on a jagged ridge stone. Thick mist swallows the background, leaving only the insect in sharp focus against a blur of fading twilight. Its forelegs fold inward, claws interlaced as it meticulously cleans the spiny segments. Fine hairs along the limbs catch the low-angle light, glowing amber against the deep green carapace. The stone beneath bears the rough texture of wind-eroded granite, scattered with sparse, dry shrubbery typical of the Monterrey region. Shadows stretch long across the creature's back, showing the precision of its grooming motion. One droplet of dew rests on the tip of a nearby thorn, reflecting the last embers of the setting sun.
