The insect's mottled green exoskeleton blends with the velvety petals and serrated leaves of the plant. Dewdrops rest on the sharp thorns and the edges of the sepals, catching the pale glow of the early sky. The background dissolves into a smooth, out-of-focus wash of muted greens and browns, isolating the predator and its prey. Fine hairs on the mantis's forelegs are visible against the blurred foliage.
