Kentucky Hills Silhouetted Against Monsoon Snow in along a wave-cut shoreline in Kentucky

Kentucky Hills Silhouetted Against Monsoon Snow

by Judith Horn

Rolling hills covered in scattered oak trees stretch along a wave-cut shoreline under the harsh, flat glare of noon. Despite the bright overhead sun, the landscape appears surreal as snow falls gently through the air, against the green and brown tones of the monsoon season. Dappled light falls through the oak leaves, creating shifting patches of brightness on the grassy slopes. The trees stand as dark silhouettes against the intense white light, their branches heavy with moisture. The shoreline curves softly in the distance, marking the boundary between the land and the water. Individual snowflakes catch the light near the tree line, while the ground remains dark and saturated with rain. The edge of a hill fades into a misty horizon where the sky meets the water.
