Frost Melting on Windowpane in Zakho Monsoon Light

by Joan Marks

Icy crystals rest on the glass surface, their jagged edges softening as warm candlelight washes over them. The sun hangs low outside, casting a deep amber glow that meets the cool blue of the winter frost. Water droplets form at the base of the ice, sliding slowly down the vertical pane in clear, viscous trails. The window frame is dark wood, against the translucent white of the melting frost. Below, the floor reflects the flickering candle flame in muted, elongated shapes that shimmer against the damp surface. Each crystal transforms from a sharp geometric spike into a rounded bead of water, marking the quiet transition from cold to warmth within the room.
