Low-hanging gray clouds press against the horizon over a flooded plain near Kilis. An autumnal forest stands in silhouette, its dark branches stark against the bright, diffused afternoon light. The lake surface acts as a perfect mirror, duplicating the jagged tree line and the heavy sky. Wet earth along the water's edge reflects the muted orange and russet tones of the seasonal foliage. The stillness of the water holds the inverted shapes of the trees with sharp clarity. A small ripple disturbs the center, breaking the reflection into fragmented shards of dark brown and gray. The wet ground glistens under the open sky, showing the scale of the floodplain.
