Iridescent Butterfly Wing Scales Macro Malindi Reed Bed
by Clark Dale
Dappled sunlight falls through overhead foliage, striking the intricate surface of a butterfly wing viewed from behind. The wing displays a mosaic of iridescent scales in shifting blues and greens, each microscopic plate catching the light against the soft blur of reed stalks in the background. The setting sits at the edge of a Malindi reed bed under a clear sky, where the turn of the season leaves the vegetation in a mix of drying browns and lingering greens. Fine, dry grasses frame the periphery, creating a textured border around the delicate subject. The light creates sharp highlights on the wing's edge while the reeds fade into a soft, out-of-focus depth. A tiny, translucent scale detaches slightly from the main structure, resting on the shadowed underside of the wing.
