Inkcap Mushroom Dissolving in Twilight Meadow

by Macy Head

Steel-blue ambient light washes over a meadow near Seiyun at the turn of the seasons, where an inkcap mushroom cap begins to liquefy. The cap surface has lost its structural integrity, dripping a thick, glossy black liquid that pools on the damp moss below. Surrounding the fungus, scattered leaves skitter across the ground, caught in a sudden gust. Layers of vegetation recede into the distance, fading from sharp focus to soft blue shadows. The black fluid reflects the dim sky, creating a stark contrast against the muted greens and browns of the fading grass. One droplet hangs from the crumbling cap edge, suspended before falling.
