Frozen Wave Curl Twilight Kiruna Early Spring
by Hunter Bowen
Steel-blue ambient light washes over a massive wave frozen mid-curl, its crest breaking into a jagged arch of ice and water. The scene sits near Kiruna during the early spring thaw, where heavy overcast skies diffuse the twilight into a uniform, cool glow. Ice crystals coat the translucent surfaces, revealing layers of trapped snow and slush within the frozen structure. From a bird's eye view, the curl forms a stark geometric curve against the flat, gray expanse of the surrounding frozen lake. The texture shifts from smooth, glassy ice on the inner curve to rough, granular frost on the outer edges. A deep shadow pools in the hollow beneath the arch, against the bright, icy white highlights on the crest's tip. at the edge is a thin, dark line of liquid water seeping from the base of the ice wall onto the frozen ground below.
