Hemp stalks silhouetted against noon rain in Gobi Desert

by Ramon Zimmerman

Rows of fibrous hemp stalks stand tall at the edge of a tea plantation, their dark forms rendered as silhouettes against the harsh, flat glare of midday sun. Rain falls in steady sheets, creating a shimmering curtain that blurs the background where green tea bushes meet the arid, sandy terrain of the Gobi Desert. The midsummer light reflects off the wet leaves, turning the fibers into sharp, black lines against a washed-out sky. Water droplets rest on the coarse textures of the stalks, weighing them down slightly. The ground below is a mix of damp earth and scattered pebbles, reflecting the gray tone of the storm. One hemp leaf near the foreground edge catches a streak of light, glowing faintly green before fading back into shadow.
