Haitian Vodou Ceremony in Tbilisi Prayer Hall

Deep shadows fill the prayer hall in Tbilisi while a thin rim of twilight light traces the edges of figures moving in a circle. Late spring clouds press low against the high windows, diffusing the last gray daylight into the room. Drums rest on wooden crates near the dancers, their surfaces worn smooth by use. The participants wear colorful fabrics that catch faint highlights as they shift in rhythm. Dust motes float in the narrow beams of light cutting through the gloom. The wooden floorboards show scratches and wear from years of movement. A pattern of shadows stretches across the back wall where the dancers pause mid-step.
