Santo Domingo Easter Procession Candles Blue Hour

Heavy gray clouds press low over the Santo Domingo waterfront, turning the evening sky into a sheet of deep blue steel. Rows of worshippers move in slow procession along the paved promenade, their forms largely swallowed by shadow. Tall wax candles held aloft create sharp, bright rims of golden light around the dark silhouettes of faces and robes. The wet pavement reflects these flickering points of warmth against the cool, monochromatic tones of the overcast day. Layers of figures recede into the distance, dissolving into the gloom while the closest participants show the texture of heavy wool and the smooth, melting wax dripping down candle sides. One flame flickers defiantly against the encroaching darkness.
