Golden Hour Fish School Over Kashmir Reed Bed
by Anne Witt
Rich amber sunset light spills across the foreground, illuminating the sharp, green tips of reeds growing at the edge of a Kashmir wetland. The ground is a mix of damp earth and sparse late spring grasses, textured with small stones and dried stalks. Above this grounded, earthy surface, a dense school of tropical fish with vivid orange and silver scales swims horizontally through the air at head height. Their fins cut the amber glow, creating small, impossible ripples in the light. The sky behind them is a heavy, uniform blanket of gray overcast, contrasting sharply with the warm illumination below. The fish appear solid and detailed, their scales reflecting the low sun, while the reeds in the immediate foreground remain still and rooted in the soil. A shadow from the nearest fish falls precisely onto a clump of wet mud, anchoring the impossible movement to the physical world.
