Giant Mushroom Cluster Under Refinery Column
by Peggy Nolan
Golden hour light spills across a flat plain in Burkina Faso, illuminating a towering refinery distillation column that dominates the horizon. The metal structure stands rigid against a hazy sky, its surface catching the warm glow. At the base, ordinary industrial objects rest on the dusty ground, surrounded by impossible mushrooms the size of umbrellas. These fungal giants rise from the earth with thick, textured caps and sturdy stems, their surfaces reflecting the low sun. A metallic haze lingers above the floor, softening the distance between the machinery and the surreal growth. The scale of the mushrooms rivals the height of nearby equipment, creating a striking visual contrast between the harsh industrial environment and the organic, oversized fungi. Shadows stretch long across the dusty terrain, at the base of the impossible scene in a realistic setting.
