Fairy Chimney Models on Golmud Workbench

Faint glow from string lights illuminates miniature mushroom-shaped spires arranged on a worn wooden workbench in Golmud. The predawn darkness frames the scene, highlighting the rough grain of the table and the smooth, tapered forms of the fairy chimneys. Early winter light falls through the low voltage bulbs, casting soft shadows that accentuate the verticality of the spires. Clean surfaces surround the models, keeping visual clutter to a minimum. Each spire displays distinct layering, mimicking natural erosion patterns found in the Qaidam Basin. The arrangement sits centrally, with the wood grain running diagonally beneath the structures. A small scratch on the table edge near the base of the nearest spire marks the passage of time.
