Frogfish Yawning on Coral Rope Near Cebu Reef

Sunlight penetrates the clear water with a flat, white glare, illuminating a frogfish clinging to a thick rope encrusted with hard corals and sponges. The fish displays mottled brown and orange skin textures that blend with the encrusting growth, its mouth wide open in a yawn revealing pale inner tissues. Beside the subject, a dark crevice in the reef wall offers a shadowed backdrop, against the bright, rippled surface visible far above. Fine particulate matter floats in the water column, catching the overhead light. The rope fibers show signs of wear, wrapped tightly by the marine organisms. A small patch of yellow coral rests on the lower curve of the fish's jawline.
