Fractal River Delta Shoreline Dry Season in along a wave-cut shoreline near Hoima

Fractal River Delta Shoreline Dry Season

by Alex Crawford

Dappled sunlight falls through a canopy of green leaves, casting shifting patches of bright yellow and deep shadow across the textured ground below. Fine, golden dust hangs suspended in the air, creating a hazy veil that softens the distant horizon. Below, the intricate branching patterns of a river delta spread outward along a wave-cut shoreline near Hoima. The dry season has left the mud flats cracked and pale, against the dark, winding channels of water that snake through the landscape. Layers of terrain recede from the foreground, where individual twigs and leaves frame the view, into the vast, flat expanse of the delta stretching toward the sky. One shadow from an overhanging branch falls sharply across a dry patch of earth.
