Fractal River Delta Drying Mud Taiwan in across a floodplain after rain in Taiwan

Fractal River Delta Drying Mud Taiwan

by Oscar Perkins

Thick mist hovers low over a vast floodplain in early autumn Taiwan, obscuring the distant horizon while bright late-afternoon sunlight pierces through to illuminate the foreground. The drying mud surface displays a complex network of fractal cracks, resembling a branching river delta etched into the earth. These fissures create a geometric texture of brown and gray tones, varying from deep shadows in the crevices to sunlit ridges on the raised edges. Sparse, withered grasses rest on the upper banks of the cracks, their yellow-green blades standing stiff against the wind. The light casts long, soft shadows that accentuate the depth of the mud's topography. A fine layer of moisture glistens on the lower ridges, reflecting the pale sky above.
